During the Test Server update on June 14th, we made it so that item levels are now displayed on items that have been added since Seekers of Adoulin.

I’d like to explain a bit more in detail about how this will work.

What are item levels?
As mentioned previously, as we move forward, player growth will occur through the procurement of equipment, instead of levels. (We are planning to have new merits, but from a level perspective players will not go above level 99.)

As such, there will be differences between the item stats that can be equipped at level 99, so we've arranged the "item level" system to display the strength of each item.
(Item levels for accessories will not be displayed.)

The level of the items you can obtain from content will become higher as the content level increases as this is demonstrated below:

119

20

Delve (Boss Monsters)

118

19

117

18

116

17

115

16

114

15

113

14

Delve (NM Group 2）

112

13

111

12

110

11

Delve (NM Group 1)

109

10

108

9

107

8

106

7

Wildskeeper Reives

105

6

Skirmish

104

5

Item Level

Content Level

Up to April 2013

Item level display
Item levels will be displayed on the very bottom of a piece of equipment.

For equipment that can have enchantments or augments applied to it, the item level will be displayed as if the item were at its maximum value.

For example, if you had an item that could be augmented and it displays an item level of 113, augmenting it with the highest value possible would make that piece of equipment each its full potential at item level 113. (This rule is the same for both random augments and for Delve's rank type system.)

Displaying monster strength when "checking" them and the amount of experience points received
The strength of a monster that is displayed when using "check" and also the amount of experience points gained when defeating monsters will vary based on item level, not on your character's level. The fundamental rules will not change.

Based on the combination of the various equipment you are wearing and their item levels, your ultimate level will be tallied, and this is what will be referenced. However, accessory slots, grips, and items equipped in ammo that are classified as accessories will not have item levels and will not be referenced for this level.

The main reasons for switching to this is due to the fact that if we kept it the same as it is currently, regardless of how strong a monster is introduced the message displayed when you "check” would be inaccurate and we are aiming to change this. We are also aiming to make sure the amount of experience points gained from defeating enemies, as well as the pace in which they are obtained, do not become unbalanced.

Adoulin mission difficulty levels
Missions and quests will basically become unlocked through coalition assignments, and we plan on balancing it such that they can be undertaken with a single party, which has the strongest items at the time that can be purchased with Bayld.

While I am utterly delighted in the major overhaul of the interface for windows to a level which most other games achieved 5 years ago I must say that the general interfacing is something that needs the update even harder.

15 times pressing enter to upgrade a single piece of AF3, open a trade dialog on several places where only the first item is traded, different behaviour of the escape key or interfacing in general.

Now I assume there is no malicious intent to design stuff this way, so it must be because no one mentioned it before. Maybe it would get better if developers got some actual game time.

He/she was very helpful and quickly resolved my in-game issue, which turned out to be my own fault. (Trying to heal myself while wearing a new accursed item).

Despite that, I was quickly on my way back to playing. Thank you for the quick and painless support!

Ok, the XP doubles are nice, especially if we decide to level a new level 1 job up (if we need to just merit on a 99 dominion Ops are still more viable). However, as the threads that ask for things like adding skill-ups to Reives-returning it to Campaign and the like should let you know, closing skill to job level gaps is a concern of many players. Would it be possible to have a double skill-up rate weekend? and not just job skills, craft/synergy might be nice as well, or even better, do those in seperate events so we can concentrate on 1 thing at a time.

Personally, I think it would be fairly well received. And like the way your current events stack with XP rings, make skill-up stack with gear/food.

Iwagami here!

I just added a forum avatar, so I'm all fired up today!

During this week’s Test Server update we will be making it possible to play a portion of Monstrosity. There are special features specific to the Test Server that will change when moving this content to the live servers, so I'd like to explain about this a bit. Also, the content implemented is subject to change.

What is Monstrosity?

Monstrosity is content that will allow you to turn into the monsters of Vana'diel and have a good time. Instead of just searching for power, try becoming various monsters and exploring a multitude of areas. You might just discover some interesting aspects that you didn't notice before!
Here is a commemorative screenshot!

While the below stats are still in-development, by attaching what is known as "knowledge" (*provisional term) you will be able to add special traits. We are doing our best to develop this content so that combining types of monsters you can change into, the knowledge you set, and other aspects turn into an awesome time.

Rabbit Knowledge 1

(HP+2% AGI+5 Attack+10 Cost: 3)

Bee Knowledge 1

(AGI+5 Attack+10 Evasion+5 Cost: 3)

Crawler Knowledge 1

(HP+3% Attack+5 Resist Slow+30 Cost: 5)

How to Start and Stop Monstrosity on the Test Server

We've setup the “=TEST=Monster Playing” NPC shown in the above screenshot in North San d’Oria (L-9), Port Bastok (J-12), and Windurst Waters (K-10). By talking to this NPC, you can get setup to try it out and hear an explanation about the content that is ready.

Once you're all set, examine the glowing object next to the test moogle and move to the lobby area.

When you move to the lobby area you will be changed into a monster, and this is when Monstrosity begins!

For the real content, we are planning to have Monstrosity begin from the three nations and then moving to a specialized lobby area.

You can return to normal from a monster via the following three ways:

Using the monster ability "Return" (*Provisional term). (Cannot be used in the lobby area.)

Examine the glowing object in the lobby area and select "End Monstrosity" (*Provisional term).

Select the "Quit Monstrosity" option that appears when you are defeated by a monster.

Content Available with the 5/31/2013 Test Server Update

With the Test Server update to take place on 5/31, it will be possible to change into a rabbit, mandragora, bee, or lizard, set knowledge and battle monsters in the field. The fields that you can play in will be 2 field areas near each of the three nations.

Content that will not be implemented yet

PvP

Unlocking of new monster types

Learning new knowledge

Adjustments to spawn locations when retrying the same area.

Content currently being adjusted

Monster stats, abilities, and magic

Amount of TP consumed when using monster skills

Knowledge stats and cost

Required experience points to level up

Features special to the Test Server

Method to select the type of monster you want to become

Method of setting knowledge

Make elemental magic damage vary with distance from enemy

Currently, in most instances, unless enemy is resistant to physical damage or it is too dangerous to stay at meele range, magic damage jobs fall far...

Currently, in most instances, unless enemy is resistant to physical damage or it is too dangerous to stay at meele range, magic damage jobs fall far behind in damage dealing output compared to double march/LastResort/Hasso/Haste+25% meeles. Addition of Delve weapons (2x D rating compared to non-Adoulin weapons) made this disparity even worse. Even coming magic changes with examples given so far won't change it.

One idea I had awhile back was to increase Elemental Magic's (and possibly avatar nukes, automaton nukes, BLU nukes, enspells, maybe even Wildfire?) damage the closer you are to enemy. Being at meele range would make your nukes do 2x more damage compared to staying at max casting range. One of reasons magic damage has lower output compared to meele damage was that mages can stand back safely out of harm's way whilst dealing damage. But if the mage is right next to enemy, and god forbid, is even engaged, that reasoning no longer applies.

It's not really anything game breaking, but would be a bone thrown at all the meele-mages out there (anyone still remembers why RDM has 3 legendary swords and one legendary dagger at their disposal or what for Claustrum was made?) and Geomancer whenever they have to stand bored next to enemy applying DEF-/EVA- debuffs so all the meeles can have some fun.

Change the way HP+ and MP+ equipment works

Hi, currently when you equip anything that hives HP+ or MP+ bonus (for example Bomb Queen Ring HP+75) you get that extra HP added to your maximum...

Hi, currently when you equip anything that hives HP+ or MP+ bonus (for example Bomb Queen Ring HP+75) you get that extra HP added to your maximum possible HP. So if you had 1225/1225 HP before ring, you'd have 1225/1300 HP after equipping it. When you cast cure spell, you cure up to 1300/1300 HP. But if, at that point, you remove Bomb Queen Ring, your HP reverts back to 1225/1225.

My proposal is such, that after unequipping HP+ gear, your max HP should not be cut back, but stay at it's current level, as a kind of a HP buffer. So if you attained 1300/1300 HP with equipemnt, it should stay at that level despite unequippng HP+ gear. If you take damage with that extra HP buffer, your max hp would be reverted back to xxxx/1225 HP until you equip HP+ gear again and cure up to 1300/1300. This is exactly how DRKs "Drain II" spell works - if you drain enemy whilst your HP is capped, you gain an extra HP buffer (unfortunately, that extra buffer expires after about a minute).
Similarly with MP+ gear - if you equip extra MP+ gear and gain MP buffer with Refresh, it should stay like that until you use up that buffer. A stellar example of how useful would that be is usage of job ability "Convert".

My reasoning for this change:
1) There is plenty of gear with HP+ and MP+ bonuses on it, but it is useless because the game revolves heavily on gear swapping. Meeles go through TP gear->WS gear->TP gear two/three times per minute, or even more in capped haste situations. Mages go through Refresh/PDT gear -> Mab/Macc gear -> Refresh/PDT gear. So any HP+/MP+ buffer is constantly getting wasted. Unless you suck at the game and don't gear swap, or gear swap 2-3 pieces ever.
2) There is huge disparity between races when it comes to HP and MP. The eternal Galka vs Tarutaru injustice. There's plenty of RSE equipment aimed to even that disparity, but it goes unused due to gear swapping.
3) For tanks, it is necessary to sit in full PDT/MDT equipment and it rarely combines PDT/MDT with useful HP+ bonuses. Just have a look at augmented Dark Rings.
4) Mages need all the extra HP (and MP) they can get. Having Geomancer stand next to megaboss to apply half of it's buffs/debuffs was developers' brightest idea ever.
5) Meteor.

There's a lot of content in this game that is more deader than a door nail but there's one bit of dead content that's always been close to my heart: Chocobo raising/racing. Maybe it's the cute chocobo chicks or the whole raising it as your own aspect but something about this has always made me crawl back for more in every Final Fantasy. The system has many outdated and pointless parts. A short list would contain things like:

Needing to recharge your chocobo whistle.

Huge time investment.

Cookie cutter chocobos (I mean I know that there's different colors and body part sizes but honestly... who cares?).

Rewards that are either nigh useless or only useful to someone raising/racing a chocobo (which is slightly paradoxical considering you would have already had to do this to get the items).

A maxed out speed/endurance chocobo is no better than a rental chocobo.

This list could go on quite a bit further I'm sure. Though the fixes should be quite easy and I propose a second list of improvements I and hopefully you would like to see to chocobo's to hopefully draw more people into the content.

Make the chocobo whistle an infinite enchantment item. I have to pour a ton of Gil into this bird to get him to be worth using in the field. Why should I have to pay more money to call him in the field. I know there's the coupon but even still since not many people do Hot 'n' Cold anymore they're a bit on the rare side.

Chocobo costumes - I know FFXIV: ARR had something about these and honestly it looked fantastic

Chocobo Inspired Armor - Sets of armor only obtainable through chocobo racing one for the four major archetypes in the game. Mage, Tank, Light and Ranged.

I've been reporting the same RMT people who started showing up at Tiamat recently as i know they been around spamming Dynamis with little to no upgrades in gear and not a single relic on any of the characters. I know each account is investigated closely but its obvious to almost everyone who the blatent RMTs are. They have names like "Saginaw" "Dohao" "Loydacp" ect which i believe are all chinese based names, and i've been playing for a decade now so i know how to discern RMTs from real players. We use to get monthly updates from the STF on what they been focusing in on, how many RMT accounts were banned, gil taken out of circulation. Now i don't even see a STF forum on here. So what has the STF been doing? I don't mean to sound to rude but do all reports go straight into the trash can/deleted? Idk how i can report RMTs for like 2 weeks and they still around when i know they been around waaaay longer then that. Did STF funds get cut back or what? Just doesn't seem like to me you care anymore, bar the 4 i mentioned theres alot more running rampant all over Asura and the other servers and i have seen the names for months, how do they go so long and get away with it? Id like to see the monthly STF reports make a come back so i at least know when i report RMT its not falling on deaf ears.

Heyo there is a line of text that has irritated me for a long time. In the Mission "Below the Arks", if you talk to Reinhard in front of the Archduke's audience chamber, he says this:

Reinhard : There is a man from the Alchemists' Guild who has been waiting to speak with the scientists for a number of days.
Reinhard : I believe he is still waiting somewhere near the archduke's quarters. Pour soul...

I believe that should be "poor soul..." right?
