My puppet master pet is getting Ruby lights with just the normal attacks.

Short outline explaining what sort of issue you are experiencing.

Type of Internet Connection:

Date and time of when the issue occurred. Please be sure to state the time zone of your region. (Example: Pacific Time = PST/PDT)

This isn't a bug. The automaton's ranged attacks (and barrage) are treated the same as weapon skills or job abilities.
When a player uses a ranged attack, you see
"Player's ranged attack hits the mob for x damage."
When the auto uses a ranged attack, you see
"Auto uses Ranged Attack.
Target takes X damage."
e.g. the same as any weapon skill or damage-dealing job ability (which also give ruby).

No it isn't, I always gotten pearls for my Ranger Frame, by the way, my Ranger JAs like Barrage and Eagle eye Shot gives Pearl.

As I'm experiencing the same issue, I'll fill in my details:
The Puppetmaster Sharpshot automaton generates ruby lights on defeat of an enemy when using a ranged attack or Barrage, whereas a player using the same methods of defeating an enemy (ranged attack or Barrage) would get pearlescent light.
Type of Internet Connection: DSL
Internet Connection Speed: 10Mbps
Date & Time: No specific time
Main Job: PUP
Support Job: /DNC
Area and Coordinates: Any Abyssea zone
Party or Solo: Solo, party, alliance of any combination of jobs
NPC Name: None
Monster Name: Any killable mob in Abyssea that (depending on killing blow used) grants pearlescent and ruby lights on defeat. In particular: Thalassinon in Abyssea - Tahrongi
* Engage in combat with a Thalassinon in Abyssea - Tahrongi.
* Observe chat log when mob is defeated to determine origin and type of killing blow and lights gained.
** If the automaton deals a melee killing blow, granted light will be pearlescent (or none at all).
** If the automaton deals a ranged attack killing blow, granted light will be ruby (always).
** If the automaton deals a Barrage ranged attack killing blow, granted light will be ruby (always).
** If the automaton deals a weaponskill killing blow, granted light will be ruby (always).
*** Confirmed with weaponskills Armor Piercer and Armor Shatterer.

Main Job: PUP
Support Job: DNC
Area and Coordinates: Abyssea zones
Party or Solo: Solo
NPC Name: None
Monster Name: Monsters in Abyssea
1. Deploy Sharpshot Automaton onto Abyssea fiend
2. Let Sharpshot Automaton get last attack on fiend that ISN'T a weaponskill.
