Hi,

In the last two weeks I've been having an issue with my keyboard where the WASD, -, Tab, and Enter keys do not respond when in game. I recently returned to the game at the end of last year, prior to whatever may have happened about two weeks ago, everything was working as expected.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and have a generic USB keyboard (Adesso - http://www.adesso.com/products/product-detail-286.html if it helps). So there aren't any special drivers that I should need. I'm typing on this keyboard now, so clearly it works within Windows, and it works with FFXIV. (I know, different game, different engine, just saying the keyboard seems to work within Windows and other games)

I've tried changing the Keyboard types within game. I don't know what it may have defaulted to when I came back last year, when I checked after some keys decided not to work I see that it was set to Compact 2. I've moved this to Full and Compact 1 all with the same result.

Key mapping within the game shows that WASD are all movement keys, - opens menu, etc. I tried manually changing forward to W, etc. Still no luck.

I've also tried deleting my User folder in \Program Files (x86)\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER\<randomstuff> thinking that if something became corrupt in my user settings starting from scratch may fix it. Unfortunately, this did nothing either.

After searching through google results and a few other game forums, I can't really find anyone with the same issue as me. Most have been gaming keyboards that needed driver updates, one mentioned a similar problem to mine, but had no follow up with a resolution.

Any thoughts as to what I could check? I'd prefer to not have to buy a new keyboard, especially without some idea as to what may have caused these keys to stop working now.

TIA,
-Rei

Just wondering: Are you also using a controller with said keyboard? My issue is similar. I use an Xbox One controller, and whilst the controller is plugged in, the keys on the keyboard that perform the function of a button on the controller do not work. Unplugging the controller, the keyboard returns but only until I plug the controller back in.

Are you running anything in the background that is allocating certain keys, ie. Screenshot apps such as Fraps/Hypercam etc?

You sir, are my hero!

I do have an Xbox One controller plugged in, which I've had since I came back to the game late last year. Unplugging it did return control of the keys to my keyboard. I'm going to go with phantom update of something with either the game or Windows 10 that broke that.

Now I can play again :D

So I had the same issue using the Xbox one controller and the keys not inputing while in game. I kept deleting the Windows update that screwed it up so I could play, which took time every time Windows updated. I have since found a work around that hasn't failed me yet. I have the Xbox one controller unplugged when I start PoL, do my logging in and all that. Once the games goes full screen at the ToS agree/disagree page I plug the controller in before I select agree. You should be able to use the D-pad now as well as the left and right arrow keys to switch between the 2 options and if they both work there you should be all set in game! If you forget to plug it in before hitting agree (which I still do occasionally) it's kind of annoying because you have to exit and start over, but to me it's less annoying than having to delete an update from Windows.

Anyway this has worked for me and I hope it works for anyone else having this issue.
